I am a slow decorator. I put winter/Christmas decorations up slowly and I take them down slowly. I removed the few things I had that were specifically Christmas, like my fishing Santa or my Merry Christmas ribbons, but most things were left until now, almost Valentine’s Day. Still up are my white lights, my white trees, my candles, my white wreaths and my greenery and pine cones. I am slowly planting yellow primroses or pansies, both which survive freezing temperatures. I will slowly add green plants and fresh flowers.
I like to decorate this way for several reasons. It breaks the task down to small tasks that I enjoy. Mostly I like it because I think the season is too short. January and February are still dark where I live, and I enjoy the pretty white lights both inside my home and outside. People in Alaska do this.
